BOOSTING CONFIDENCE IN PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN: THE POWER OF AFFIRMATION CARDS AND PORTRAITS

BOOSTING CONFIDENCE IN PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN: THE POWER OF AFFIRMATION CARDS AND PORTRAITS

As a portrait photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing countless moments of joy, pride, and growth. One of the most rewarding experiences is photographing children as they embark on their educational journey, whether they’re starting primary school or returning for another year. But did you know there can be a significant boost in confidence in children who are surrounded by positive affirmations and have their milestones celebrated? In this blog, I’ll delve into the transformative power of affirmation cards – I’ve even created a set of beautiful affirmation cards for you to print and use at home!  You’ll find the link to the free download at the bottom!

UNDERSTANDING AFFIRMATION CARDS

Affirmation cards are small, often beautifully designed cards that carry positive and empowering messages. They work on the principle of positive reinforcement. When children repeatedly read or hear positive affirmations about themselves, they begin to internalise these messages, leading to stronger self-belief and increased confidence.

For example, an affirmation card might say, “I am brave and can face any challenge,” or “I am loved and valued.” These simple yet powerful statements can counteract any negative self-talk or doubts that might creep into a young mind.

HOW TO USE AFFIRMATION CARDS

  1. Morning Ritual: Start the day by reading an affirmation card with your child. This sets a positive tone for the day ahead.
  2. Visual Reminder: Place the cards in areas where your child frequently spends time, like their playroom or bedside table.
  3. Interactive Sessions: Encourage your child to create their own affirmation cards. This not only boosts creativity but also ensures the affirmations resonate personally with them.
  4. Discussion: Talk about the meaning of each affirmation. This helps in deeper internalisation and understanding.

THE CONFIDENCE-BOOSTING POWER OF PORTRAITS

As well as affirmations, portraits can be a powerful way to boost a child’s confidence.  As a family photographer, I’ve seen firsthand the magic that happens when a child sees themselves through the lens of art. A portrait is not just a photograph; it’s a celebration of individuality, growth, and potential.  It’s one reason I love offering Back To School Sessions.

When these portraits are printed and displayed prominently at home, they serve as a daily reminder of a child’s worth and achievements. Every time they see their image, they’re reminded of that special day, the excitement of starting or returning to school, and the love and pride their family feels for them.

Moreover, having their portraits taken can be an event in itself. It’s an opportunity for them to dress up, feel special, and be the centre of attention. This experience can significantly boost their self-esteem.

MARKING MILESTONES WITH PORTRAIT SESSIONS

To commemorate the significant milestone of starting or going back to school, I offer special portrait sessions. These sessions are tailored to capture the essence, personality, and spirit of each child. The resulting portraits are not just photographs but cherished memories that families can hold onto for years.

The journey of growing up is filled with challenges and self-discovery. As caregivers, educators, and loved ones, we have tools at our disposal, like affirmation cards and portraits, to ensure our children grow up with a strong sense of self-worth and confidence. Let’s use them wisely and watch our young ones flourish.
